FAQ-Translation

How much does it cost?
The cost of trans­la­tion varies de­pend­ing on: sub­ject mat­ter, quan­tity, required de­liv­ery date.  
Please request a quotation. Quotations are free of charge and will be treated with full confidentiality.
 
How long does it take?
The following can be used as a guideline:
Japanese to English
4,000-4,500 Japan­ese char­ac­ters  - one week
 (10 Eng­lish pages per our billing page count).

English to Japanese
1,700 – 2,000 Eng­lish words  -  one week
(10 Japan­ese pages per our billing page count)

Our billing page is counted in the tar­get lan­guage and is defined as fol­lows: 
Japan­ese to Eng­lish
22 lines of 55 char­ac­ters each
Eng­lish to Japan­ese
A4 page (equiv­a­lent to a 400-char­ac­ter man­u­script pad)

Express service:
When a document must be translated in a hurry, please let us know. We will do all we can to deliver it when you need it. On really tight deadlines, request our Express service (incurs additional costs).
 
How do I order?
Once you have received and agreed to our quotation we will ask you to send a confirmation in writing(e-mail or FAX is acceptable). Upon receipt of this confirmation we will commence the work bearing in mind the required delivery time.
 
Delivery
The trans­lated doc­u­ment will be delivered via e-mail in encrypted files unless you request post service.
 
What are the backgrounds of the translators and editors?
Our trans­la­tors and ed­i­tors are well qual­i­fied and have rel­e­vant ex­pe­ri­ence in the fields of the doc­u­ments they trans­late. We can­not dis­close their names or per­sonal his­tory due to our pri­vacy pol­icy, but, upon request we can give you a sum­mary of their ed­u­ca­tion and job ex­pe­ri­ence.
 Note: All staff regularly take in-house sem­i­nars and on-the-job train­ing to keep their knowl­edge and skills up to date.
 
What languages can be translated?
We specialize in our core language pairs of Japanese, Chinese,  Korean and English.
If you require additional languages please inquire.
 
What software can be handled? 
Mi­crosoft, Adobe (in­clud­ing Macro­me­dia), Quark, Au­toDesk, Trados, and Memo Q.  
 We also han­dle non-Japan­ese ver­sions of :
 Mi­crosoft Of­fice, Adobe Il­lus­tra­tor, and Adobe Pho­to­shop
(i.e. Eng­lish and Chi­nese ver­sions of Mi­crosoft Of­fice).
 
Can you deliver the data in a print-ready format?
Yes!
If you want us to pre­pare page lay­outs ready to print, we can make it to the spec­i­fi­ca­tions re­quired for print­ing.
Other services available:
 *print on film,
 *process book­bind­ing,
 *data CDs,
 *pre­paration of data CD con­tents.
 These ser­vices can be or­dered in­di­vid­u­ally or com­bined.
 
Can you explain about your confidentiality policy?
We will take the ut­most care in han­dling the doc­u­ments we re­ceive from you, whether they are hard­copy or elec­tronic data.
Our in-house staff mem­bers and trans­la­tors un­der­stand our con­fi­den­tial­ity oblig­a­tion, and have signed non-disclosure agreements in order to work for Y.T.B.
 We are also willing to sign any con­fi­den­tial­ity agree­ments with your company upon your re­quest.
 
Can an original layout be recreated?
Yes!
 For an ad­di­tional charge, we can recre­ate the lay­out of the orig­i­nal doc­u­ment.
The price dif­fers de­pend­ing on whether you can pro­vide us with the orig­i­nal data or not.
 
Can you handle specialized areas or fields?
Yes!
Our trans­la­tors and ed­i­tors are experts in 
document translation. Your doc­u­ment will be as­signed to a trans­la­tor with rel­e­vant ex­per­tise in the field you require.
 
Can I ask for the same translator again?
Yes!
This of course depends on workload and any other projects currently being handled.
There may be times when the trans­la­tor is as­signed to some other project and can­not work im­me­di­ately on your trans­la­tion.
In this case we will ask you for more time.
If this does not suit your deadline we will as­sign a trans­la­tor with ex­per­tise in the same field.
 Note: If you know when a pro­ject is com­ing up, please let us know in ad­vance so that we can arrange to have your trans­la­tor ready for your pro­ject.
 
If the document has been revised, is there any chance that the part already translated is charged for again?
 We rely on you to inform us of which parts of the document need translation and which do not, we will then trans­late the re­vised parts only.
If you want us to find the re­vised parts, we may need to charge you for the ad­di­tional work.
In any case, whether we must charge and how much we charge de­pends on the ex­tent of the re­vi­sion.
 
Do you verify and check translated documents internally?
Yes!
Our in-house staff mem­bers check and read trans­lated doc­u­ments on screen and on hard­copy.

If I revise the translated document, can you translate the parts revised?
In the case of minor changes, re­vi­sions are free of charge.
If revisions are more extensive we will need to make a charge which we will agree with you prior to commencement.
Please let us know in advance if revisions are expected. We can quote our price, including the expected revisions, which is less than handling revisions afterwards.
